J. Robert Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904 to Julius and Ella Oppenheimer. He was given the surname of Robert with a J before it taken from his father. Later he would specialize that the J stood for nonhing. His parents were Jewish immigrants who and their family had a wealthy textile line of work in New York City.
